London Chinatown Celebrates
The Establishment Of Hong Kong SAR
With A Traditional Poon Choi Lunch

Come and celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the biggest street party with a traditional "Chinese Poon Choi Large Bowl Lunch" in London Chinatown.

Poon Choi is a feast of the very best of Chinese cuisine and is layered with different food in one large bowl - a tradition observed in the New Territories in Hong Kong at ceremonial and festive events with its history dating back to the Song Dynasty, when the local people of the "Wall Villages" pooled their best food together in a wooden basin and presented it to the Emperor who was in exile from the north.

As well as celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Poon Choi Lunch is also a way to observe the Chinese traditions of paying respects and showing our appreciation to the elderly members of our community who have laid the foundation to build the successes of London Chinatown today. Special tables at the celebrations will be reserved for the elderly members of the community and consessionary tickets will be also be available for senior citizens.

The Poon Choi Lunch will be prepared by the Royal China Group and the Imperial China Restaurant with traditional ingredients in the authentic style from the "Wall Villages" of the New Territories in Hong Kong.

EVERYONE IS WELCOMED AT THE CELEBRATIONS:

As well as the Poon Choi Lunch, there will also be an exhibition at Newport Place to mark the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Special tables will be reserved at Newport Place for visitors bringing their own lunch to join in the celebrations, and Chinese tea will be served.

ROAD CLOSURE AND VISITORS ACCESS TO THE AREA ON EVENT DAY

Set up of the event will begin from 10.30am at the above areas, with Gerrard Street, Wardour Street, Lisle Street, Macclesfield Street closed to traffic during the event. Access routes on both sides of the streets will be managed by professional security officers to ensure the safety and easy access of visitors to the shops.
